Know the local system
STM publishes bus information separately from métro information. Its bus network pages provide route details and ways to look up schedules. For a bus operator application, start with the bus network and the current STM recruitment notice; a métro map alone does not show the streets a bus follows.
Official reference: Société de transport de Montréal (STM). Agency information can change; this page is independent and is not endorsed by the agency.
This guide is in English. Official local materials may be in French. Confirm the language of recruitment and testing with the employer; a French practice pack is not currently available for this city.
A Montréal study exercise
Choose a bus route connecting to a métro station. Write down its two destinations and one street on each side of the connection. Explain which destination a passenger should look for, instead of answering only with the station name.
Check your work
- Can another person find the same answer from the official source you recorded?
- Did you identify the correct employer or service, rather than just a familiar agency name?
- For a journey, did you check direction, service day and connections? For an application, did you separate stated requirements from assumptions?
This is an original learning exercise, not a question from the agency’s examination. Write down anything the official source does not answer and confirm it before relying on it.
Build a preparation plan
- Read the invitation. Note the role, assessment name, allowed materials, date and accessibility contact. Save the current notice for your own reference.
- Practise the named skills. If the notice includes reading or map interpretation, work through our route-map lesson. For written instructions and timetable arithmetic, use the free study guides.
- Keep licence study separate. Use the current provincial commercial-driver handbook and the employer’s instructions for any licence or endorsement requirement. Our hiring-preparation exercises do not replace that material.
- Review errors. Explain why an answer is wrong before timing another attempt. Do not treat a sample-quiz score as a prediction of selection or employment.
Try the free 12-question sample quiz. Its traffic-sign examples cite a Canadian handbook; U.S. applicants should use their own state’s official material for road-law and CDL preparation.
Questions from Montréal applicants
How do I prepare for a bus driver written test in Montréal?
Start with the current Société de transport de Montréal (STM) recruitment notice and your assessment invitation. Use this guide’s local reading exercise, practise route and timetable interpretation, and study only the test subjects the employer identifies. Our exercises are independent practice, not official exam questions.
Does Société de transport de Montréal (STM) use a particular written exam?
This guide does not confirm a current test format, question count, pass mark or assessment provider. Those details can depend on the role and recruitment round. Check the current official notice or ask the recruitment team before buying a test-specific product.
Is there a paid Montréal practice pack?
No city-specific paid pack is currently listed for this guide. The local exercise here is free. You can also use our free route-reading lesson and sample quiz; check their stated source region before using traffic-sign questions for licence study.
